Peripheral Arterial Disease

Arteries are the blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood and nutrients from the heart to all of the organs of the body. These arteries are prone to developing narrowings over time as atherosclerosis builds up in the wall of the vessel and encroaches on the lumen. People suffering from peripheral arterial disease can have debilitating symptoms ranging from pain on walking to pain at night that prevents sleeping, or ulcer formation. A range of open and endovascular options are available to treat this pathology and restore blood flow to the affected limb. Treatments will be tailored to the patient’s specific problem.

Arterial Aneurysms

Aneurysmal degeneration occurs when the wall of an artery weakens and dilates by more than half its original size. As the vessel increases in diameter, the vessel wall weakens and the flow in the aneurysm becomes disorganised. These two factors increase the risk of rupture or thrombosis of the aneurysm leading to life-threatening complications. Dr Robertson utilises both endovascular and open surgical techniques to treat arterial aneurysms.

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are superficial veins whose valves have ceased to function correctly, leading to the buildup of pressure within these thin walled vessels. Patients suffering from varicose veins can have a variety of symptoms from aching pain to skin changes, bleeding or ulceration. Dr Robertson is happy to discuss the full spectrum of management options for Varicose Veins during your appointment.

Venous Pathologies

The venous system is responsible for returning blood from your tissues to your heart. There are multiple different issues that can arise in the venous system leading to a variety of complaints. From investigation to diagnosis and management of these varied conditions, Dr Robertson will take the time to ensure you understand your treatment options and help decide what management strategy is best for your needs.

Diabetic Foot Pathology

Patients with diabetic foot pathologies can suffer from wounds related to decreased blood supply and nervous dysfunction. This complex problem can result in changes to the shape of the foot, recurrent ulceration, and eventually limb loss. This complex problem requires a holistic approach. Dr Robertson has extensive experience dealing with this complex pathology.

Renal Access Surgery

Patients suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease require renal replacement therapy to sustain life. Having a reliable access for haemodialysis is a key component of this. Dr Robertson will create and maintain a suitable arteriovenous fistula for you using modern techniques and lessons learned from his time training with leaders in the renal access field.
